Top Facts on James Dean

 Blogging this week hasn't been great unfortunately. I've been researching a lot the last 2 days about James Dean and thought I'd write about him. I found out about him on Instagram, I noticed followers posting pictures of him and thought, he's an old Hollywood star and goggled him and here I am finally blogging about him. Like Marilyn Monroe he also died too song and is still well known to the world. Here are 16 facts you might not know about him or I didn't until researching about him.

1. James Dean's two front teeth were fake. He lost them in a trapeze accident in his family's barn and had to wear false ones for the rest of his life.

2. He was extremely near-sighted and could barely see without his glasses.

3. His favourite book was Antoine de Saint Exupery's The Little Prince.

4. James briefly dated Liz Sheridan, who is best known for her role as Helen, Jerry's mother on Seinfield

5. His first professional acting job was in a Pepsi commercial. He was paid $10 for the commercial.

6. He was an insomniac.

7. Billie Holiday's “When Your Lover Has Gone” was his favourite song.

8. Elizabeth Taylor gave him a Siamese kitten, he named it Marcus (after his uncle).

9. Marlon Brando was his idol. The two apparently had a romantic but troubled relationship.

10. One of his favourite hobbies was playing the bongos.

11. James died less than one month before the release of his most well-known and iconic film, Rebel Without a Cause.

12. Two hours before his fatal accident, James was issued a speeding ticket.

13. James was not driving alone when he got into the accident, his mechanic Rolf Wuetherich was in the passenger seat. Rolf suffered serious head injuries and a broken leg, but survived the crash.

14. At the time of his death, James was signed to star in Somebody Up There Likes Me, the role went Paul Newman which helped launch his career.

15. James was the first actor to ever get posthumous acting nomination in Academy Awards history. He was nominated for Best Actor for his role in East of Eden. He didn't win.

16. In 1957, James received his second consecutive posthumous Best Actor Academy Award nomination for his role in Giant.
